Hive Roller Derby hosts its first event under the brand new name!
Train for the Track is an event made for rookie skaters who want to build their derby brain and derby skills. The event is designed for those that can already confidently skate forwards and balance on one leg rolling for 5 seconds.
The day will consist of classroom sessions as well as on skates sessions.
Classroom session 1:
Explore scenarios and strategies to build your derby brain and speed up your reaction time on track
Session 2:
Skill building to nail track coverage, jammer tracking and build agility to work in and around walls. Super important for both jammers and blockers.
Session 3:
Put those skills to work for the team. Using your strengths as part of a collective, we'll work on skills and drills for control, communication and teamwork!
What to bring?
Your own quad skates (we do not provide hire skates)
Roller derby protective kit (required: knee pads, elbow pads, helmet, wrist guards and mouth guard)
Water and snacks!
This will be coached by our very own Kerrie (Hive Skate Hub) & Hydra (Rainy City Roller Derby). Both are qualified skate coaches with more than 20 years roller derby coaching between them.
